Kitting up the new Cooper Rig
Well our 2010 petrol 150 series Prado had seen a fair whack of our beautiful country and it was time to put it out to pasture. After 175,000 kms of hard work and travel from coast to coast, it was getting a little tired.
What to buy next?
We looked around at what was on offer and just could not go past the ride, comfort and reliability the Toyota Prado had given us for the last 6 years, so off to Toyota we went for the new model.
Modification time
Once we took delivery it was modification time, we threw everything at it, ARB, MSA 4×4, Hema, Narva, Rhino Rack, Piranha, DP Chip, GME, Kaymar plus a few more. No expense has been spared.
From ARB we added, BP51 suspension 40mm lift, Summit Deluxe front bar, underbody protection, on-board compressor, side and rear awnings and side steps.
We also added a Kaymar rear bar with dual wheel carrier.
MSA 4×4 supplied explorer aluminium draw system, fridge drop slide and front and rear canvas seat covers.
We tried out the new HX-1 from Hema with great success. Narva 70w HID driving lights, Rhino rack flat roof rack. Piranha dual battery system.
We also fitted the DP Chip and Plug n Go from DP Chip, this made a huge difference to the drivability and economy of the 2.8.
The most important upgrade was of course the tyres, throwing away the passenger rated OE and replacing them with the new Cooper STT PRO in LT265/70R17. This keeps the diameter within legalities plus adds that bit more ground clearance. We chose the STT PRO because this vehicle will travel in many conditions and we wanted to ensure the tyre would suit all of the worst terrain it will tackle.
Our first trek was to head out for a 4 day trip to the beautiful Brindabella Ranges with the Your 4×4 crew, checking out many tracks, campgrounds, caves and creeks.
The new girl performed faultlessly, the new 2.8 diesel is smoother and quieter and I must say the new BP51 suspension from ARB is unbelievable. What you can drive through and over is amazing, the suspension just soaks it up.
We will be heading out again in the New Year testing out all the accessories plus tyres so if you see us make sure you say hi.
