International Accolades for Cooper Tires’ A/T3
We are excited to bring you the latest news on our all-terrain tyre, the Discoverer A/T3. The prestigious Overland Journal, a USA-based 4WD adventure magazine, has just given it two fantastic accolades – the Value Award and Editor’s Choice – following its impressive results in an independent tyre test.
“The Cooper Discoverer A/T3 was the overwhelming winner and genuine value. On the highway the Cooper was direct, quiet, and smooth,” reported the Overland Journal. As for its off-road performance, “The Discoverer was an animal on the dirt oval and provided huge driver confidence. This directly translates to improved safety for an overland traveler.”
The tests
The Overland Journal team tested seven of America’s most popular all-terrain tyres including BFGoodrich’s T/A, the Goodyear Wrangler, the Toyo Open Country A/T II and Cooper’s Discoverer A/T3. The chief evaluator was Joe Bacal, one of North America’s leading 4WD performance testers, former tyre tester for Toyota and off-road racing champion with Team Lexus. The tests were not commissioned or conducted by tyre manufacturers, making the results 100% independent.
As all-terrain tyres are touted as being great ‘all-rounders’ no matter what surface you’re driving on, the Overland Journal team put each tyre through a series of tests to gauge not just off-road capabilities but also on-road performance. These included wet cornering, speed and stability tests, a noise, vibration and harshness evaluation, a rock climb test and a dirt track performance evaluation.
How did we do?
This is the part that we at Cooper Tires were keenest to read about. The Overland Journal summed up the A/T3 as having the best wet grip of all the tyres on road and providing superior ride comfort, with its performance on the blacktop really impressing their journalists: “It cannot be overstated how well these tires perform overall on the pavement.“
This high quality standard was upheld in the off-road tests, where the A/T3 showed the best speed capability (“ridiculously fast” is how Joe Bacal described this tyre) as well as great chip and cut resistance, flexibility and steering response. And despite the testing that they put these Coopers through, this “has resulted in no punctures or failures”.
